It’s Official: A New The Witcher Game After Cyberpunk 2077!

CD Projekt RED has confirmed that after they took a trip to Night City, they will go back to the world of Geralt – so there will be a new The Witcher game, but it might not be what we would expect.

Adam Kicinski, the company’s president and CEO met the Polish journalists, and he revealed in this meeting that CD Projekt RED already „created a relatively clear concept” for its next single-player The Witcher game, but he quickly added that it is NOT going to be called The Witcher 4. A smaller team is making preparations for this project, but they have to bigger teams that are responsible for the network mode (or, in other words, the multiplayer…) of Cyberpunk 2077 and its other additions (DLC), respectively.

If they finish work on Cyberpunk 2077, they will immediately begin working on the next The Witcher game. However, we have to ask what Kicinski meant with this comment. Will they wait until CP2077’s September launch, and then they start the development, or does he mean the Polish dev team has to completely finish work on the game, including its multiplayer (which we wrote that it will likely not be done before 2022…), before they can get to this game? The answer is that they mean the September launch – Cyberpunk 2077’s multiplayer/DLC won’t need as much of a focus.

There’s another interesting comment by Kicinski. He said that The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077 acts as two worlds and IPs that they can work on, so they will continue to make games either in Geralt’s world or in the Cyberpunk world, meaning Cyberpunk 2077 was not a one-off for them. It sounds weird, and let’s hope they don’t pigeonhole themselves with this move.

Cyberpunk 2077 is out on September 17 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Google Stadia, and PC. As CD Projekt owns GOG, we can expect a GOG version on top of the Steam and the Epic Games Store releases. There’s also an Xbox Series X patch/version, but will there be a PlayStation 5 version, too?
