The Medium: The Game’s Concept Isn’t New!

Bloober Team‘s concept is older than you’d think.

Nintendo Life reports that in 2012, several video game websites received a call that played a pre-recorded message. It said „Do you know about Medium? If not, you will.”  Indeed: Bloober Team registered a domain for the game, and they planned to release it on virtually everything at the time: PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii U, PlayStation Vita, and even mobile platforms. (But not the Nintendo 3DS!)

The Nintendo Wii U version would have made a lot of sense: one world could have been displayed on your television, while the other world (let’s say, the spiritual one) could have been seen on your Wii U’s GamePad. However, every other platform’s concept would have had to be different, including the PlayStation Vita.

On Steam, we see the system requirements.

Minimum system requirements:

  • A 64-bit operating system and processor are required
  • Operating system: Windows 10
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-6600 or AMD Ryzen 5 2500X, or better
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics (1080p resolution): NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 with 6 GB VRAM or AMD Radeon R9 390X, or equivalent with 4 GB VRAM, or better
  • DirectX: DX11
  • Storage: 30 GB available space
  • Sound Card: DirectX compatible, headphones recommended

Recommended system requirements:

  • A 64-bit operating system and processor are required
  • Operating system: Windows 10
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-9600 or AMD Ryzen 7 3700X, or better
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Graphics (1080p resolution): NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti or AMD Radeon RX Vega 56, or better
  • Graphics (4K resolution): NVidia GeForce RTX 2070 or AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT, or better
  • DirectX: DX12
  • Storage: 30 GB available space
  • Sound Card: DirectX compatible, headphones recommended
  • For 4K with ray tracing, an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 is recommended

The Medium will launch this Holiday season on Xbox Series X (as a launch title) and PC. On console, the game will run in 4K at 30 FPS. „The decision to go with 30 fps is a result of the game’s focus on cinematic experience on one hand, and the player’s ability to play in 2 worlds at the same time, rendered and displayed simultaneously, on the other hand,” the devs’ explained. It seems an SSD is only recommended, and not required.
