Crystal Dynamics explained why Spider-Man will be exclusive to Sony‘s in Marvel’s Avengers
We have been around for a few days with the exclusivity of the Spider-Man character in Marvel’s Avengers for PlayStation consoles. A fact that has raised many wounds, especially in the community of Xbox players, who have proposed a boycott of the Crystal Dynamics game that will hit stores on September 4.
Scot Amos, co-director of Crystal Dynamics, has deepened – via ComicBook – the studio’s decision why Spider-Man will be an exclusive character in Marvel’s Avengers both in the PS4 version and in the PS5 version when the new console generation of Sony goes on sale.
„It’s a matter of PlayStation having the rights, and Sony owns it”
“What Spider-Man represents as a character brings us to the relationship between PlayStation and Marvel. When it comes to decisions about Spider-Man, it ‘s a matter of PlayStation owning the rights, and Sony owns it.” the exec explains.
„And Marvel with Sony saying “hey, we can do this with this platform.” And we as creators see that as an opportunity to do something unique and fun. As everyone knows, we announced Hawkeye less than a week ago. We have two characters announced in five days, the future is bright. People will look at one thing though instead of saying, ‘Oh, it doesn’t matter, you’re going to have hundreds of hours of content and years of stories to come, and new worlds and regions, and new heroes,'” says Amos.
The executive affirms that he thinks that people will understand it by “the business that is behind it”, at the same time that he indicates that they are “making the game for everyone” and that they want it to be “the place where you can fulfil those fantasies of superheroes with your team of Avengers, and that continues to grow with characters that you had not even imagined yet and that we will add later, along with new regions. ”
Marvel’s Avengers will have various betas throughout the month of August.
