The patch is here, but downloading Abandoned Realtime Experience doesn’t make much sense…
So the patch was launched about three days after it was supposed to on August 10 (after a few delays). However, the studio (who, for some reason, uses plural in its name, even though the team continues to defend itself saying that we are a small studio in singular…), about thirteen minutes before the patch was planned to be available on August 10, posted a video.
Then, about 15 minutes later, they reveal that due to technical issues, the patch isn’t available yet (we wrote about it), up until yesterday evening. Alright, here’s a video that shows what the app contains at the moment.
Aside from the brightness differences, it’s the same video, meaning Hasan Kahraman’s team had zero excuses for the delay. There’s a menu that resembles Metal Gear Solid 2, which is… you guessed it, A Hideo Kojima Game. And the video itself doesn’t show anything interesting (it feels a bit like Silent Hill 2…). In the end, there’s some text announcing a trailer’s arrival shortly, followed by a blurry image, and then that there’s going to be a playable prologue as well.
The music itself resembles Akira Yamaoka’s work. He was part of Team Silent, responsible mainly for the first three Silent Hill games, but the song itself is something different, only available on Spotify at the moment. The song is called I Saw Stars by Deep Sounds. Knowing the studio, they might not have had the rights to license it, so… they could have stolen this song.
Why are we so critical? Well, a Reddit post provides a significantly detailed timeline of Blue Box Game Studios, and it shows that the Dutch studio hasn’t done much so far.
– The first game by Kahraman was archived in February 2015, called Rewind, as well as The Lost Tapes. On March 14, an announcement came that the playable teaser is delayed, with a new release date confirmed later. On April 15, it was announced to get on Steam Greenlight by May. On March 19, the first Kickstarter update happened. On March 27, it popped up on IndieDB as well. The demo then got delayed. On April 6, the Kickstarter was halted due to a private investor backing the game. And on June 18, the VR support was cut from the game, followed by Rewind: Voices of the Past put on ice on September 4.
– Thee’s an unannounced project in September 2015, and the old concept was turned into The Lost Tape. The streaming of their games (via Twitch) never happened. On September 20, they announced to self-publish The Lost Tape (whose development was near completion), followed by a return to work on Rewind: Voices of the Past.
– On January 10, 2016. the studio talks about how they can make high-quality products quickly. On October 5, they mentioned working on Rewind: Voices of the Past, but in September 2017, its site was no longer active), only to return on the last day of March 2018, but in June 2021, it was dead again.
– Then, there’s The Whisperer. On March 23, 2017, Kahraman said that it will launch in June and that the concept was previously called Rewind (FPS, inspired by Fatal Frame, open world, puzzles, co-op, VR support on PlayStation 4 and PC), and it was meant to be on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on June 15, 2017. And on July 2, Kahraman talked about it on IndieDB (with the game still not being available).
– On March 21, 2018, Unseen Faces surfaces. It is a horror/adventure game based on multiplayer…, and it had a website, too.
– On March 26, 2019, this tidbit is archived: Tales of the Six Swords was updated for the final time on the Google Play Store, and it was meant to launch on July 25. A big update was teased on August 7, then they announced on December 8 that the game was wiped from the platform.
– Hard to follow so far? It gets worse! On August 8, 2020, Rewind: Mobile Edition surfaces, and it should have been on Android on September 9 for 1.79 USD, but it turned into a PlayStation 4-exclusive.
– October 20, 2020. The Haunting, inspired by Fatal Frame, surfaces. In its second update, this early access game would have received PvP and co-op, and the plans were to release it on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, “Steam VR”, and PlayStation VR. The game cost 20 euros. Steam link, BBGS website, delay, and the games keep changing.
– And finally, their website. Their partners in July 2016 included Nvidia, ID@Xbox, Epic Games, and PlayStation, then in October, the footer mentioned the Rewind series, the Blue puzzle series, and The Survivors. In April 2021, they had this description of themselves, and in June, the investors’ page still seemed to be up.
Credit goes to Tictacpaul for this work. TLDR: NONE of Kahraman’s games have ever been released. And Abandoned might follow the same fate. Oh, and the studio wiped several of its tweets recently. We wonder why…
