Peacemaker Season 2 On HBO Max Has Been Announced By James Gunn

MOVIE NEWS – HBO Max’s hit series Peacemaker is unsurprisingly getting a second season.

The Peacemaker was a hugely successful series for HBO Max: now, according to tweets from series creator James Gunn and star John Cena, the superhero is back for a second season.

The series, written and directed by James Gunn, stars Cena in the title role. Following the events of Gunn’s 2021 film The Suicide Squad, the Peacemaker returns home a free man but finds that freedom isn’t as simple as just letting go…

Gunn will write and direct all episodes of the second season, as he did for the first.

It’s a formula that has worked well for the hugely popular series, so it’s no surprise that HBO Max continues to hand Gunn the reins.

Sarah Aubrey, Head of Original Content at HBO Max, said, “The brilliance of James Gunn once again shines with Peacemaker. He took this character, brought to life by the inimitable John Cena, and created an exceptional series that’s simultaneously thrilling, hilarious and heartfelt, showcasing the humanity beneath this team of misfits living in a superhuman world. As the first original DC show to have its series premiere on HBO Max, we are thrilled that the viewers agreed to give peace a f***ing chance.

The superhero is widely regarded as one of the best DC characters to be brought to cinema or TV in this era. Most felt that it wasn’t a question of if the series would be renewed, but when.

Gunn wrote the script for the entire first season within eight weeks of the COVID quarantine, not waiting for the series to be picked up. No one knew when Peacemaker was filmed that it would be one of HBO Max’s most successful series.

Series star John Cena had a great time promoting both Suicide Squad and Peacemaker. He dons the costume whenever he can to promote his role.

Cena loves playing Peacemaker, and fans clearly love the show. For example, during his appearance at Comic-Con in San Diego, he spent the entire weekend in full Peacemaker costume to promote the series.

As for the first season of the series, it’s currently streaming on HBO Max, with the season finale premiering at midnight on February 17, 2022.
