Microsoft might follow the tradition by looking at the console hiding in one of Logitech’s commercials.
The original Xbox was black, but later, there was a white, transparent version. In 2005, the Xbox 360 came in white as standard, but Microsoft later brought a black version of the Xbox 360 S and Elite to stores. 2013’s Xbox One looked like a VCR but came in black. However, with the arrival of the Xbox One S, a white version of it arrived. The Xbox Series S comes in white by default, but there is no such version of the Xbox Series X (and don’t count the limited collector’s editions).
However, Logitech’s Astro ad features the two 2020 consoles, the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X, side by side. If Microsoft didn’t do a one-off console solely for the commercial, it indeed suggests that the Redmond-based tech giant may soon give its more powerful console a brighter attire. Microsoft has not yet made any announcement about it.
However, it could happen soon because the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 – Core controller was announced in white earlier this week. The expensive controller with many customization options is likely no coincidence. There’s not usually a significant difference between the console’s colour and its controller, so presumably, Microsoft will officially release the white Xbox Series X before the end of the year so that there can be a lighter shade, similar to its “little brother”.
After all, there is also a white version of the OLED version of the Nintendo Switch (which is the third version of the big N’s hybrid platform, as let’s not forget the non-dockable Lite!), so Microsoft would be the exception… and they don’t usually go the unique route in this area.
