Christian Bale is Open to a New MCU Character After Playing in Thor: Love and Thunder

MOVIE NEWS – True chameleon actor Christian Bale does not rule out appearing in another Marvel movie as long as it has an “interesting story”.

After playing the main villain in Thor: Love and Thunder, it’s possible that Christian Bale may one day be seen playing an entirely new character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While it’s somewhat rare for actors to play distinct, established characters in the MCU, it does happen. Given Bale’s abilities as a chameleon actor who completely disappears into his various roles, it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to see Bale slip into another role at some point in the MCU’s future.

In fact, Bale is open to the idea, even if it’s partly because it makes his kids happy. In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, Bale addressed the possibility of taking on a new character in the MCU in the future. He clarified that he would be open to it if it met the criteria of being a good story and if his children assured him that he should take on the role. As Bale explains in an interview via The Direct:

“A good story is a good story. A good character, a good director – if it’s something interesting. And most importantly, if my kids say I shouldn’t not do it. [For Love and Thunder] they said, that ‘no, you can’t say no to that. You say yes to that.”

What else Bale liked in the role of Gorr was that he found the role of the main villain much easier than the role of the hero, which he played for three films in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy. Perhaps being offered another villainous role will make it all the more enticing for him to step back into the MCU and play someone equally evil but otherwise completely different from Gorr. As Bale recently told Screen Rant about bad guys “having more fun”:

“Really, absolutely. Not only are they more fun, but they’re easier to play. Because everyone is fascinated by bad guys, right? Once the bad guy is on the screen, nobody’s looking at the good guy anymore. All eyes are on the bad guy, so it’s much easier to act.”

Meanwhile, Bale will next be seen as an 1830s detective working with Edgar Allan Poe (Harry Melling) to solve a series of murders in New York. The Pale Blue Eye, based on Louis Bayard’s book of the same name, is written and directed by Scott Cooper, who previously directed Bale in Out of the Furnace and Hostiles. The film will be released on Netflix on January 6, 2023.
