Critically Acclaimed, Popular PS4 RPGs Coming To PS5?!

The recently released ratings from the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) point to two highly rated RPGs for PlayStation 5.

Two classic role-playing games currently available on PlayStation 4 could soon be coming to PlayStation 5. The ESRB has released updated ratings for The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel 3 and 4. The Legend of Heroes franchise, also known as the Falcom-verse, is deeply loved in the turn-based RPG segment. Trails of Cold Steel 3 and 4 are both still thriving modern examples of the genre. Both of these RPGs are due for release on PS5 soon.

The Cold Steel branch of The Legend of Heroes is just one of many within the Falcom genre. The original Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel was first released in 2013, although the western localisation didn’t arrive until 2015. Episodes 2, 3, and 4 arrived in the West in 2016, 2019, and 2020 respectively, with the latter concluding the arc. Over the years, all four games were eventually released for PC, PS4 and Switch. In the West, only the latest in the Falcom genre, The Legend of Heroes: Trails into Reverie, was released for PS5.

Nihon Falcom may be working to bring more of its library of turn-based RPGs to PlayStation 5, judging by the recently published ESRB review.

According to the ESRB release, The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel 3 and The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel 4 have also been given a PS5 release rating. To be clear, whether the role-playing games will be released for PS5 has not been officially confirmed.

Unfortunately, the ESRB ratings do not provide any further information on the possible PS5 release of the two games. The ESRB classification is only a summary of the classification. The latter refers to fantasy violence, suggestive content and swearing. However, the mention of PS5 as the platform for both games does not seem to be accidental.

Fans of Nihon Falcom’s Trails series have been waiting for news about the localisation of The Legend of Heroes: Kuro no Kiseki (Trails in the Dark), the eleventh game in the series, which will be released in 2021. The PS5 port of the older games in the series will be a welcome surprise. If and when it’s officially announced. It is unlikely, however, that the ports will receive any substantive changes. But it’s possible that the two games could get a performance boost.

As for when publisher NIS America might announce these PS5 ports, or any other Falcom-verse-related announcements, no prominent events are planned.

There was a Falcom week in early October last year. This could be held again in 2023, but that has not yet been announced. Fans of Nihon’s Falcom RPGs must wait impatiently for NIS America to reveal their plans.
