Legendary Capcom Game To Get Anime Adaptation On Netflix?! [VIDEO]

MOVIE NEWS – It’s official that Netflix is making a Devil May Cry animation. Another Capcom adaptation is coming to the streaming service!

Dante returns – in animated form. Netflix announced at its Drop 01 animation event that it is teaming up with Capcom to create a new animated series based on the Devil May Cry video game series. Adi Shankar, who previously worked on Netflix’s Castlevania adaptation, will serve as showrunner. Studio Mir will be responsible for the animation. There’s no premiere date yet, but Netflix has the series on its “coming soon” list. You can get a very brief taste in the teaser trailer above.

Not much is known about the series at the moment. In a statement, Shankar said, “I’m honored that Netflix and Capcom have entrusted me to shepherd the Devil May Cry franchise. [Writer] Alex Larsen and I love these characters, we are part of the fandom, and vow to surpass the exceptionally high bar we set for ourselves.”

This isn’t the first collaboration between Netflix and Capcom; the streaming service has produced several different Resident Evil projects, and a Mega Man movie is in the works.

Netflix hasn’t shied away from video game adaptations either. Projects in development include Horizon Zero Dawn, Gears of War, Assassin’s Creed and BioShock.

As for Devil May Cry, the fifth in the series, released in 2019, was director Hideaki Itsuno’s attempt to bring back pure action games. “I wanted to prove that the genre could exist if you just focus on that,” he told The Verge in 2019 when talking about the game’s stylish action.

We’re eager to see what’s next; in the meantime, here’s the teaser!
