Highlander Reboot: Will the Original Queen Songs Return? Chad Stahelski, the Director, Answered!

MOVIE NEWS – Highlander reboot director Chad Stahelski has confirmed that the original Queen songs will return in the Henry Cavill-starring film, albeit with a caveat.

Chad Stahelski, the director of the upcoming Highlander reboot starring Henry Cavill, has confirmed that the original Queen songs will also be played in his film. Although the franchise later spawned several sequels and various television spinoffs, the original film was also made memorable by a number of songs recorded by the iconic British rock band Queen, many of which appeared on their 1986 album A Kind Of Magic, which is often featured in the film. it is also called an unofficial sequel. One song, “Princes of the Universe”, later served as the theme song for the TV series Highlander.

Speaking to TheWrap, Stahelski talked about his plans for the upcoming Highlander reboot and confirmed that Queen songs will return for his film, albeit with a cryptic stipulation. He hinted that the music from the original film “will come back in a different way than you think,” but still insisted that Queen songs will play a role in the Cavill-led reboot. Check out his comments below:

Yes. Probably different than you think, but a hardcore yes!

How could the Highlander reboot use the original soundtrack in a new way?

While those familiar with the original Highlander film and its soundtrack will likely celebrate Stahelski’s enthusiastic confirmation that he’ll be using Queen’s songs himself, his comments raise questions about exactly how they might feature in the reboot. The director’s warning that Queen’s music will return in a completely unexpected way suggests that the audience will not end up hearing the original versions, but will encounter them in a completely different form.

Interesting fact: six of the nine Queen songs from the original A Kind of Magic album were featured in the original Highlander movie.

Whether that means Stahelski might be looking to get more modern bands to cover Queen songs, or even feature instrumental versions of iconic riffs, remains to be seen. On the other hand, with Queen still actively touring and Adam Lambert filling in for the late Freddie Mercury, it’s even possible that Stahelski wants to incorporate new, previously unheard Queen music into his film. However, any of the aforementioned scenarios would inevitably cause some backlash from fans who yearn for Mercury’s inimitable vocals.

Instead, perhaps the most interesting option is the franchise’s penchant for weaving past and present storylines. Since Cavill’s character is an immortal who has lived for centuries, viewers can even see him fighting at the height of Queen’s original popularity in the 1980s. A potential fight scene breaking out at an 80s Queen concert would be a perfect way to pay homage to the original Highlander score while giving the music a different take.
