Bond Hits Another Million-Seller Milestone with 007 First Light!

More and more people can now say they are Bond—James Bond, to be exact. IO Interactive and Amazon MGM Studios announced that 007 First Light sold over 4 million copies in the first three months since its release. This makes the action-adventure game one of the fastest-selling premium titles of 2026. The press release highlights that this milestone demonstrates global enthusiasm for 007 First Light. The game’s remarkable success, both critical and commercial, especially in light of the Nintendo Switch 2 port set to release later this year, highlights the franchise’s enduring appeal. It also shows that the studio’s ambitious goal of delivering a high-quality, original Bond experience to audiences worldwide has been well received.

This sustained sales momentum underscores the game’s significant cultural impact. It makes 007 First Light one of the most successful game releases of 2026 and reaffirms IO Interactive’s status as a leading player. Unfortunately, the studio lost Microsoft’s support for its upcoming online action RPG, Project Fantasy, which is now being funded directly by the Danish studio. There was uncertainty for a while as to whether Amazon MGM Studios, the rights holder for James Bond, would grant IO Interactive permission to develop the sequel. In early June, Jeff Gattis, the new head of Amazon Gaming, hinted at this uncertainty. However, a month and a half later, he reversed his position and confirmed that IO Interactive had been given the green light.

IO Interactive is focusing all its efforts on expanding 007: First Light during the first year, as evidenced by a detailed content roadmap. This includes frequent updates to the Tactical Simulation mode, which introduces new challenges in classic locations such as the Kensington workshop, the Slovakian mountains, the Mauritanian black market, and the luxurious Pearl resort in Vietnam. Players will uncover new information about Webb Industries and investigate a mysterious technological device that could become one of Bond’s most dangerous enemies. After the events in Mauritania, an unexpected collaboration between MI6 and Bawma, the king of pirates, forces Bond to intervene in a delicate mission.

During the first year, players can expect regular TacSim updates that will include gear upgrades, new weapons, ranked challenges, cosmetic items, and additional gameplay scenarios. There is also the potential for the introduction of New Game+, which would increase the campaign’s replayability. The path tracing update for PC, developed in collaboration with Nvidia, is still expected despite the delay.
