Resident Evil 9 is Coming – The Game’s Official Title was Announced! [VIDEO]

Kōshi Nakanishi returns as director and confirms a development for Resident Evil 9 that has been rumoured a thousand times but without details…

We all know by now that Capcom’s strategy for Resident Evil, at least for the past decade, has been two-pronged. Releasing original, chronological games and remaking series classics. However, since the last release was a remake, the next step is a new game. RE9 was only a rumour until now, but a few days ago, we already know that it is real. Moreover, its title has also been revealed: Resident Evil 9: Revenant Shadows. Capcom has officially confirmed that they are working on a new part of the horror/zombie saga.

Ethan Winters is responsible for Capcom’s strategy, that is, thanks to him within the game’s narrative. He is the desperate husband in Resident Evil 7. And then an equally desperate father in Resident Evil Village, which made Capcom’s saga leap into first-person horror. Thus, the Japanese could juggle conservatism and originality for seven years.

Now that it’s come full circle after Resident Evil 4 Remake and Shadows of Rose, the question has been raised as to how Capcom will move forward, and the answer comes in the form of an original Resident Evil.

A few days ago, the Japanese held Capcom NEXT, an event focusing on the company’s upcoming releases. Here, Kōshi Nakanishi dropped the nuke before closing the event: “Yes, we’re making a new Resident Evil.” Although he is sparing with words, the Japanese creative’s confirmation is enough to get us excited.

Nakanishi directed Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D and Resident Evil: Revelations. He was the creator of a new golden age of the saga when he took over the baton for Resident Evil 7 in 2017. So it was logical and, at the same time, poetic that he was the one to announce that he was entering a new phase of the company as the director of the game.

“It was difficult for me to decide what to do after Resident Evil 7, but now it’s clear to me and, frankly, it feels meaningful,” he said.

As mentioned, beyond that, however, it wasn’t very enlightening. Nakanishi concluded by saying that he could not yet give precise details about the new game. However, she hopes we’ll all be as excited as she is when it happens.

When is Resident Evil 9 coming out?

What we do know, based on rumours, is that Capcom didn’t start development on the game yesterday. It has reportedly been in the oven for seven years. According to renowned insiders like Dusk Golem, this would be a risky instalment in terms of narrative, scale, and graphics. They expect a release date of 2025. But there seems to be no reliable evidence for the latter. It is possible that the rumours point to the end of the 2025 financial year, i.e., January-March 2026.
