Artificial Intelligence to Transform Coding, Says Zuckerberg [VIDEO]

TECH NEWS – The head of Meta says many mid-level programmers could lose their jobs to advancing AI later this year.

Zuck has been in the news every other day or so lately, after appearing on Joe Rogan’s podcast. Here he outlined his vision for his company (which will include layoffs, we wrote about that), then he took a swipe at Apple (we wrote about that, too), but he didn’t let the AI revolution go by without a word. It is beginning to redefine how we communicate, how we access information, and how we use it. Many have started using AI to make their processes more efficient. However, thanks to its widespread adoption, many fear that they will lose their jobs because their job rotation will become redundant over time.

This line of thinking was further reinforced by Zuckerberg’s comments on artificial intelligence: “Probably in 2025, we at Meta, as well as the other companies that are basically working on this, will have an AI that can effectively be a kind of mid-level engineer that you have in your company that can write code,” Zuck said. He acknowledged that the technology will be expensive to deploy initially, but will become more efficient over time as AI engineers develop much of the application code rather than humans. This prediction seems consistent with the continued evolution of the field and the transformative impact it could have on the tech industry as a whole.

In the interview, Zuckerberg mentioned that AI would give engineers more room to be more creative and strategic by taking over mid-level coding roles. He emphasized that engineers’ roles could evolve and not necessarily be replaced entirely. For now, their oversight would remain key to improving AI’s performance. A similar comment was made by the CEO of Salesforce, who shared internal discussions about hiring software engineers in 2025 and that there is a serious debate about whether engineering should be automated with AI instead.

Whatever the case, it is clear that we are witnessing a paradigm shift, and we need to get used to it.
