Xbox Series: An Upgrade to Free Up Space on Your Console!

Microsoft is already testing an update that will make it easier to free up space on your Xbox Series SSD, so there’s a pretty important convenience feature coming.

The Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S were released in 2020, and since then, 30 million units have been sold worldwide. In the nearly four and a half years since then, they’ve received a lot of updates. You can get an early look at them through the Xbox Insider program. Early testing is Microsoft’s way of making sure new features reach all users in a more stable state. Last year, for example, there was an update that made it easier and faster to download game updates. On the downside, the experimental nature of the program means that gamers may encounter some issues when trying out new updates. Earlier this month, for example, gamers’ consoles reverted to factory settings after installing an Xbox Insider update…

Microsoft recently introduced a new Xbox Insider update that promises to help gamers optimize their console’s storage space. This feature sounds particularly useful for gamers who constantly struggle with not having enough storage space to install new games. (For them, it might be worth adding more storage… although it’s true that the proprietary form NVMe SSDs are quite expensive).

How does this update work? Basically, it helps gamers free up space on the console. Once installed, instead of simply showing users the remaining add-ons and shrinkable games, the console will make recommendations such as removing duplicate copies of games or files for titles that the console owner no longer has access to (for example, an Xbox Game Pass title that the player hasn’t purchased and is no longer part of the service). While this doesn’t automatically mean that players will have more free space, it can help them manage old data. In addition to this new feature, the update also fixes an issue that was causing some users to see “strange” text on their console in certain languages.

That sounds nice…
