Cyberpunk 2077: Development of the Nintendo Switch 2 Port Didn’t Start This Year!

CD Projekt RED (CDPR) didn’t start development on Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition in early 2025, but earlier…

Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition for Nintendo Switch 2 has been in development for longer than previously thought, according to a member of the development team. Filip Downar, a technical design expert at CDPR, confirmed to Eurogamer that the team has been passionately working on the Nintendo Switch 2 port of the game for more than seven weeks. The earlier misconception about seven weeks arose because the build seen at the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct was finalized seven weeks before it was revealed.

While CDPR is currently focusing on Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition on the big N’s next-gen hardware, it’s possible that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will eventually make it to the Nintendo Switch 2. When asked by Eurogamer about CDPR’s commitment to the platform, Downar didn’t deny the possibility of another game release, but only confirmed the team’s commitment to the Switch 2 port of Cyberpunk 2077.

Considering that Geralt of Rivia’s Nintendo Switch port is one of the most impressive to date on the Big N’s 2017 hardware, we’d be curious to see how the game could be further developed to take advantage of the extra power of Nintendo’s new platform and some of its advanced features, such as ray tracing support. Of course, it’s up to CDPR and interest: if it’s worth it for the Poles, they’ll make the port. Especially if Switch 2 sells well, and who knows, maybe it will happen.

Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition already has a release date, as it will be one of the launch titles for Nintendo Switch 2, so it will be released on June 5 alongside the Japanese company’s new console. This port has already been officially announced by CDPR that the cartridge (physical) edition will not require any downloads, so everything will be available in one go.
