Jason Momoa Claims His New Epic Historical Series Outshines Game of Thrones

MOVIE NEWS – Jason Momoa has undeniably crafted an impressive career over the last decade. Fresh off the surprising success of the Minecraft movie, Momoa is shifting gears dramatically with Chief of War, his upcoming Apple TV+ historical drama, which the actor confidently proclaims will be “bigger than Game of Thrones.”

While Momoa’s enthusiasm is persuasive—partly because nobody dares challenge a man with his intimidating stature—Apple TV+ faces significant hurdles. Despite producing highly acclaimed original content, the platform has recently struggled with dwindling subscriber numbers, overshadowed by competitors. Thus, while Chief of War’s quality seems assured, its potential audience remains uncertain.

“Forget Dragons, These Stories Are Real”

According to Momoa, the series’ cultural resonance and vast scope set it apart, positioning it to become a monumental success. Speaking to GQ, he said:
“I can’t get us in trouble, but there’s someone extremely important who I worked with on Game of Thrones. They came in to assist with some elements and became completely engrossed in our story. They came back amazed, asking, ‘Did you know this? And this?’ I was like, ‘Bro, yes, we know this.’ Then he said, ‘This is bigger than Game of Thrones could ever be. Forget dragons—this is incredible. These are real stories. We have so many to tell.’ That’s the beauty of it. We’re at a special moment. We’ve kicked open a door, and now younger generations can charge in and be inspired. That’s what we want—to excite our community.”

When Jason Momoa was first announced alongside Jack Black for Minecraft, the project seemed doomed from the start. Now, it stands poised to become one of the biggest cinematic hits of 2025. Clearly, Momoa possesses a golden touch, becoming one of Hollywood’s most bankable stars.

Besides Chief of War, the former Aquaman lead is returning to the DC universe as Lobo in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, continues development on a buddy-cop comedy with Dave Bautista, and reprises his role as Duncan Idaho in Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming Dune: Messiah, despite the character’s death in the second film. Additionally, Momoa will appear in at least one more Fast & Furious installment and join the cast of Ryan Reynolds’ comedy Animal Friends.
