Larian Studios has unveiled plans to create a dedicated narrative department aimed at taking its storytelling to the next level, as the team begins work on two brand-new RPGs following the success of Baldur’s Gate 3.
Fresh off the wave of praise for Patch 8 of Baldur’s Gate 3, Larian Studios is wasting no time looking ahead. The studio has already begun early development on two new role-playing games, and while details are scarce, one thing is clear: the Belgian RPG masters are serious about refining their storytelling. Determined to top the high bar they set at the 2023 Game Awards, the team has made the bold decision to launch an entirely new department focused exclusively on narrative excellence.
Larian Wants Writers – and They’re Hiring With Style
The news came to light through a series of witty job listings posted by the studio. “Are you the kind of person who invents an entire world and pronunciation guide for a fictional stomach virus, just to avoid going to work the next day?” reads one of their posts on X. “We want your voice for our new narrative department.”
Michael “Cromwelp” Douse, the studio’s director of publishing and editorial, added fuel to the buzz: “We’re building an entirely new department at Larian. Got great storytelling chops? We might need you.”
Larian is on the lookout for experienced writers, editors, and narrative designers from all kinds of backgrounds and industries. The idea is to strengthen one of the studio’s most celebrated talents—storytelling—for the long haul. Among the positions currently open are head of narrative, creative partnerships lead, and senior story editor. The message is clear: Larian is doubling down on what it does best.
Next Game to Be Revealed—or Released—Before 2030
The studio has confirmed that development on its next big adventure is starting from the ground up. While it’s too early for specific details, expectations are already building. Notably, the team had previously dismissed the idea of Baldur’s Gate 3 DLC, calling it “boring” from a creative standpoint—so they’ve shifted all attention to entirely new projects.
According to Larian leadership, fans won’t have to wait forever. The next RPG is set to be officially revealed—or perhaps even launched—before 2030. That might seem distant, but with Larian’s track record, the wait will likely be worth it.
