Blood Message – A Forgotten Hero and His Son Set Out on a Mission That Could Change an Empire [VIDEO]

NetEase is breaking new ground with its first-ever AAA single-player title: Blood Message is a cinematic action-adventure about a nameless man and his son trying to deliver a crucial message at the end of the Tang Dynasty.

NetEase, a company traditionally known for online multiplayer titles, is now venturing into uncharted territory with Blood Message, a fully single-player game developed by 24 Entertainment Lin’an under the Thunder Fire Studio label, built with Unreal Engine 5 and enhanced by proprietary tools.

Blood Message is a linear, third-person, story-driven action-adventure that fuses brutal survival combat with deep Eastern storytelling. Players take on the role of a nameless messenger and his son as they join the Dunhuang uprising and set out to deliver a message that could determine the future of their war-torn homeland.

Set in the waning days of the Tang Dynasty, the game follows their perilous journey across 3,000 li (roughly 1,600 kilometers) of deadly landscapes, including barren deserts and the wilds of East and Central Asia, as they try to reach Chang’an, the empire’s capital. The rich cultural and historical setting immerses players in the customs and atmosphere of the era.

The developers emphasize that Blood Message isn’t about emperors or generals, but about ordinary people driven by extraordinary determination. These unsung heroes fight not for glory, but for duty and love. This is a tribute to those lost to history—but never forgotten by those who continue their legacy.

“With Blood Message, we are ushering players into a new generation of high adventure. As our first completely single-player focused experience from NetEase Games after two decades of dedication to the gaming industry, we are prepared to deliver a truly epic and cinematic experience for players around the world,” said Zhipeng Hu, Lead Producer and Executive Vice President of NetEase Games in the official press release.

Blood Message is in development for PC and undisclosed consoles. A release date has yet to be announced.

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
