Telegram CEO Pavel Durov has over 100 children and has already decided what will happen to his inheritance: “I’ve written my will.” It’s $13.9 billion to be shared among more than 100 children. Durov will follow the path already embraced by Zuckerberg, Musk and Gates regarding his legacy.
Until recently, Pavel Durov was best known as the CEO of Telegram with a fortune of $13.9 billion. But now, beyond the buzz and controversy surrounding the messaging app, Durov is grabbing headlines for another reason: he claims to have fathered over 100 children.
Speaking to Le Point, Durov revealed that he has six children from three partners, plus more than 100 others—thanks to numerous donations—across 12 countries. Fearing his fortune could end up in the wrong hands or cause infighting, he’s put together a will to decide exactly what each child will inherit.
$13.9 billion to be split among 100+ kids
Durov makes no distinction between children born naturally and those born via donation: “They will all have the same rights.” But don’t expect a cash windfall anytime soon—he’s stipulated in his will that nobody can touch the inheritance for the next 30 years.
In the footsteps of Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, and Elon Musk, Durov wants his heirs to understand sacrifice before getting access to billions: “I want them to live like regular people, to build themselves, to learn to trust themselves, to be capable of creating, to not depend on a bank account.” Considering that each heir could walk away with $131 million, that’s probably wise.
With enough wealth to buy a private island and still have $31 million left to spend, it’s hard to imagine anyone turning down this legacy. But only time will tell how Durov’s will, and the number of heirs, might change by 2055—and how the fortune will actually be divided.
