Concord disaster: Pre-release PS5 build of Sony’s failed shooter leaks online

A development build of Sony Interactive Studios and Firewalk Studios’ doomed shooter Concord has hit the web. Dubbed FWChaos, the leak appeared this weekend and seems to date back to November 14, 2023. Sony originally launched the game last August, only to pull it from sale just two weeks later after a disastrous debut.

If the build date is accurate, this version was compiled nine months before Concord’s August 2024 release. VGC confirmed the download’s authenticity after investigating the files.

Launching the build brings up an unskippable login screen. The uploader included an .ini file that unlocks a hidden developer menu, allowing access straight to the “Select Freegunner” screen. But from there, players are stuck: no Freegunners appear, so character selection is impossible. The only workaround is to open the pause menu, which grants access to the main menu and a range of unfinished submenus.

The leak reveals a partially built Galactic Guide with lore on various planets, a Crew section showcasing info on all 16 playable characters and their alternate skins, a placeholder-only Job Board, a nonfunctional Store, and a Settings tab packed with developer features like matchmaking toggles and a font style guide.

Because Concord requires an online connection, it isn’t currently possible to actually play the game or select a character. Unless the community finds a workaround, all that’s accessible are these incomplete menus.

Just two weeks after launch, Sony announced the end for Concord, pulled it from digital storefronts, and issued refunds—citing poor player response. While Sony initially floated the idea of a relaunch, a month later PlayStation Studios chief Hermen Hulst confirmed the title was dead for good. Firewalk Studios, founded in 2018 and acquired by Sony in 2023, was shuttered soon after, with promises to relocate staff where possible across Sony’s development network.

Concord, the studio’s debut, reportedly spent eight years in development. Reviews were mixed at best: a Metacritic average of 62 on PS5, 65 on PC, and estimated sales as low as 25,000 copies.
