GreedFall Studio Closure Confirmed As Buyer Fails To Appear

It’s time to say goodbye to a studio with 18 years of history. Spiders, the developer that won over RPG fans with titles like GreedFall 2: The Dying World, has reportedly begun its shutdown process. For those who have been following the studio’s situation, the outcome is not surprising: its parent company Nacon has been struggling with serious financial issues for months and had been trying to find a buyer. With no deal secured, the company is now preparing for closure.

The information comes from French outlet Origami, whose sources claim that Spiders will soon shut down. With no buyer in sight, the administrator overseeing the publisher’s restructuring will file for bankruptcy in the commercial court – a step described by insiders as a mere formality at this stage. Developers are now preparing to say goodbye to a studio that made its mark on the action RPG genre with games such as The Technomancer, Steelrising, and GreedFall 2: The Dying World.

The collapse of Nacon is at the heart of this situation. At the end of February, the company shocked the industry by declaring insolvency and initiating a court-supervised restructuring process. At the time, it appeared to be a way to buy time and stabilize operations. However, the crisis quickly spread: in March, four studios within the group – Cyanide, Spiders, Kylotonn, and Big Bad Wolf – also declared insolvency.

The Fall Of Spiders Was The Result Of A Long-Building Crisis

The move was intended to protect assets and control budgets amid mounting debt, but it placed studios in a highly vulnerable position and raised concerns among both employees and players. Their future remained uncertain while financial pressures continued to mount.

Spiders was ultimately put up for sale in hopes of securing a new owner who could save the team. However, the deadline passed without any serious offers. That effectively sealed the studio’s fate. Meanwhile, Nacon continues to face major challenges. France’s largest developers’ union, STJV, has accused the company of disastrous management, short-term profit strategies, and wasting tens of millions of euros.

These criticisms are compounded by deteriorating working conditions and a series of measures that failed to address the root causes of the company’s problems. As a result, Nacon’s crisis has already claimed its first major victim, and the closure of Spiders will be a significant loss for many players.
