The Dungeons & Dragons Game From The Director Of God Of War III Has Been Canceled!

However, the studio run by Stig Asmussen, director of the Star Wars Jedi games and God of War III, is reportedly still doing well.

Wizards of the Coast terminated its publishing agreement with Giant Skull regarding an original Dungeons & Dragons action-adventure game that was first announced last June. Stig Asmussen, director of the Star Wars Jedi series and God of War III, founded Giant Skull. The project was in development for barely a year, so it wasn’t close to being finished.

“We assess concepts at every stage of development. While we decided not to pursue an early concept from Giant Skull, we have great respect for Stig Asmussen and his team and value our ongoing relationship,” a Wizards of the Coast spokesperson told Bloomberg. The spokesperson added that the company was still taking new pitches from Giant Skull. The termination of the publishing contract coincided with a major restructuring at Wizards of the Coast, which included the closure of its subsidiary, Atomic Arcade. (Incidentally, Wizards of the Coast will be featured in today’s news.)

Asmussen told Bloomberg that he enjoyed working with Wizards of the Coast and continues to discuss potential new publishing deals with people there and at other companies. He also assured us that everything is fine at Giant Skull. Let’s hope so and that we won’t have to report later that Giant Skull is closing after all.

Returning to the comment from the Wizards of the Coast spokesperson, he stated that Giant Skull’s scrapped game was still in the early concept phase. This means that, when the game was announced in June 2025, it was still in a preliminary state. Thus, the announcement essentially took place when the agreement was reached. Now, we can only hope that Asmussen will have the opportunity to create something new.
