Invincible VS Devs Want to See Spider-Man and Sub-Zero in Their Game!

The obvious word is crossover, but the rights holders would have to agree first…

Whether it is event comics that shake up the multiverse or the moment Shadow the Hedgehog called Darkseid pathetic, comic-book stories love bringing together separate groups of characters. The same applies to traditional fighting games, where Ryu can throw fireballs at Hulk or Minecraft Steve just as easily as he can at Guile.

At the moment, the superhero team-based fighter Invincible VS is limited to the world of Robert Kirkman’s acclaimed Image Comics series. But suppose we eventually get tired of watching Battle Beast tear other Invincible characters into bloody pieces. In that case, perhaps we would rather see him do the same to our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.

In an interview with MMORPG.com, Invincible VS director Dave Hall and lead combat designer Bau Bautista both agreed that the idea sounds pretty cool. There is already precedent for this specific crossover, as Spider-Man has appeared in the Invincible comics and vice versa. Invincible itself is filled with nods to DC and Marvel characters, so such a collaboration would feel more like a full-circle moment than a random Fortnite-style guest appearance.

Hall and Bautista also appear interested in guest characters more generally, including fighters from the Mortal Kombat roster.

“We’re definitely not above that. We’re always down for a crossover. It is really exciting to think about, and we hope we can do some in the future, but there is nothing we can talk about right now. We would love to have Sub-Zero and Scorpion! Bring them over, that would be great. If we have that opportunity, we will definitely take it.” Dave Hall said.

There is already precedent for that as well, as Omni-Man appeared as a guest fighter in Mortal Kombat 1. For now, Invincible VS is focusing on other characters from the Image Comics series, as expected. Immortal and Universa will join the game on June 30 when Season 1 launches. The rest is up to Disney and Warner.
