Halo Studios has confirmed that retail Xbox and PlayStation copies of Halo: Campaign Evolved will include both a physical case and a game disc. The remake arrives on July 28, while Premium and Collector’s Edition owners can start playing up to five days earlier.
Questions about the contents of Halo: Campaign Evolved’s physical edition kept appearing within the player community, so Halo Studios addressed the subject directly in its July community Q&A. The studio confirmed that anyone purchasing the Xbox or PlayStation version from a retailer will receive a physical game case and a disc. That confirmation applies to both console platforms.
John Junyszek, Halo Studios’ Senior Community Manager, delivered the answer on Halo Waypoint. “Yes!” was the opening word of the response, before he clarified that retail buyers will receive the physical case and disc to add to their collection. In other words, Halo Studios is not presenting the console release as a box containing only a download code or a collector-oriented package without a disc.
The official answer confirms the presence of the case and the disc, but it does not explain whether the game will require additional installation steps or downloads when players first launch it. The important point is nevertheless clear: Halo: Campaign Evolved will be available as a traditional disc-based retail release for Xbox and PlayStation.
Halo Studios also shared other details about the remake during the Q&A. Halo: Campaign Evolved will include a Machinima mode that lets players use a free camera, lower their weapons, and control their Spartan while the free camera is active. The feature will be available to every player from the start, with no Skull unlock required, giving the community immediate tools for creating videos and screenshots.
Halo: Campaign Evolved is a modernized remake of the original Halo: Combat Evolved campaign, but it is not limited to upgraded visuals. Alongside the complete classic story, the game includes Operation: METEORITE, a new three-mission prequel arc in which the Master Chief and Sergeant Johnson take part in a covert UNSC operation aboard a Covenant research vessel. Players can experience the campaign alone, in two-player split-screen co-op on console, or in online co-op for up to four players with full cross-play and shared progression.
The game launches on July 28 for Xbox Series X|S, PC, Steam, and PlayStation 5. Premium and Collector’s Edition owners receive access from July 23, up to five days before the full release, while the game also joins Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass on launch day. Xbox has additionally confirmed that the Collector’s Edition includes a disc for Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, while the Steam version comes with a code.
