Diablo 4 Won’t Stop at One Expansion: Blizzard Confirms a Second Story DLC and Shares Release Window

After Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred, the general manager of the Diablo saga, Rod Fergusson, confirmed at an event that the second expansion is set to arrive in 2026. Blizzard surprised fans by revealing that Diablo 4 won’t stop at just one DLC. The franchise director assured that the second story expansion is coming in 2026.

Since its launch, Diablo 4 has cemented itself as one of the most successful action RPGs in the industry. Over multiple seasons, Blizzard has delivered engaging content that has kept players hooked, offering the kind of challenge and depth expected from an ARPG. The release of Vessel of Hatred in October 2024 was a major milestone for the game, bringing a brand-new playable class, an unexplored region, and numerous gameplay refinements to reinvigorate the experience.

Blizzard has now confirmed that Diablo 4’s second expansion won’t arrive until 2026. This announcement came from Rod Fergusson, the franchise’s general manager, during a panel at the DICE event in Las Vegas. Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier first shared this news on BlueSky. While no specific release date has been revealed, speculation is already brewing about what major new features the DLC could introduce.

If you missed it, Blizzard originally stated in June 2023 that two expansions were planned for Diablo 4. Now that Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred has launched, players are looking ahead to the second expansion, which remains shrouded in mystery. Interestingly, this marks the first time in Diablo history that a game will receive two full expansions, hinting at even more substantial content and deeper mechanics to explore.

Diablo Creator Criticizes the Current State of ARPGs

Meanwhile, Diablo’s original creator has voiced concerns over the modern state of action RPGs. David Brevik expressed frustration with how the genre has evolved, shifting away from the slower, tactical pace of Diablo 2. “I don’t find it particularly appealing to just wipe out entire screens of enemies instantly, clearing everything and casually strolling through the level. I don’t think that’s a great experience—I think it’s dumb.” he remarked.
