Blizzard Bids Adieu To Its Employee In Style

What does Blizzard do when someone retires from the company after twenty-three (!) years? It pulls out the creativity in style.

Chris Metzen was the Senior VP of Story and Franchise Development at Blizzard Entertainment. At the age of 42, he decided to put an end to his story, too. What did Metzen do at Blizzard? Well…

In 1996, he co-created Diablo with Bill Roper (who was a designer at Blizzard, but he left since then), contributed to Warcraft in both its RTS and MMO formats, he was the Lead Designer on Starcraft and last, but not least, he was Story & Setting Lead on Overwatch. Not a weak list and Blizzard knows it, too.

Metzen will get a statue as a goodbye gift, and he can take it home with him. You can see it below the article, although only in computer graphics format. Its creator is senior visual effects artist Terrie Denman. The statue shows Metzen, who holds the hand of young Winston (one of the Overwatch characters), pointing to their next direction.

Hats off to Blizzard, what a nice way to say goodbye!

Anikó, our news editor and communication manager, is more interested in the business side of the gaming industry. She worked at banks, and she has a vast knowledge of business life. Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
