PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds: Bluehole Apologizes!

They had to apologise because of a mask (too) that doesn’t look too much of a problem to us, but it is offensive for other people.

Yesterday, a pilot mask surfaced in the popular battle royale game that isn’t available on PlayStation 4. The problem is that it contains the rising sun symbol, which was used by the Imperial Japanese military, who has occupied Korea and parts of China. The two countries’ players found the mask offensive because of this reason, and let us not forget that they have millions of players. No wonder that the mask was pulled from the game’s store, and those who purchased it got a refund.

But wait, there’s more: yesterday, a player found out that one of the AI bots is called Unit 731. It’s another historical reference – Unit 731 was the Japanese army’s division that developed chemical weapons. These were tested on Korean, Russian, and Chinese prisoners of war, and ten thousand people died in their testing facilities. Bluehole responded by announcing the name will be removed from PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds; the mask should have never become available for purchase, and that they will scrutinise items before they go on sale.

Still, it is a ridiculous situation, and we can’t believe what else they could have behind the scenes…

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
