It’s Official: PlayStation Network Online ID Changes Are Coming!

We can change our online IDs on the PlayStation Network shortly!

Sony announced on the PlayStation Blog that the online ID changes will start with a test in late November in the PlayStation Preview Program (and those who previously tested PlayStation 4 firmware can also help to test), and the program will have a proper start in early 2019.

The online ID can be changed during the test as many times as the users want, and the pricing is also known: the first ID change will be free, but after that, it will cost 10 USD/CAD/EUR/8 GBP. Those who have a PlayStation Plus-subscription will get a discount: they can do so for half the price (5 USD/CAD/EUR/4 GBP). You’ll also get the option to show your previous ID when you change to a new one to avoid confusion on your friends’ lists, but it cannot be adjusted after the ID change.

All PlayStation 4 games launched after April 1 will support this function, and most of the most-played/popular titles before that date will also support the ID change. (Sony will launch a complete list when the online ID program starts early next year.) Not all PlayStation 4/PlayStation 3/PlayStation Vita games will support the ID changes – thus, during the test, you can revert to your original ID for free.

At least the rumour got confirmed. It’s a little costly, but the PlayStation Plus subscribers will at least get a discount.
