PlatinumGames will try to reach new heights this year.
MadWorld, Bayonetta, Vanquish, Anarchy Reigns, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, The Wonderful 101, Bayonetta 2, Transformers: Devastation, Nier: Automata, Astral Chain – just a couple examples of PlatinumGames’ memorable creations. Kenichi Sato, the president of the company thinks they can get even further throughout this year – he says 2020 is going to be „the beginning of a new stage.”
In a New Year’s post on InsideGames, a Japanese website, multiple developers, studios spoke, including Sato, who thanked the support around NieR: AutomatA, and the Nintendo Switch-exclusive Astral Chain. He added that the latter game was the first new, original action game since 2013’s Wii U-exclusive The Wonderful 101. And we have no idea what PlatinumGames could be doing in 2020. One thing is confirmed: Bayonetta & Vanquish 10th Anniversary Bundle will arrive in February on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. We should also hear new details about Bayonetta 3 (which was silent since its 2017 The Game Awards announcement), and during the summer, Babylon’s Fall, in development for PlayStation 4 and PC, should also get more details probably at the E3 (this game is made for Square Enix).
We should also mention that the team is slowly trying to achieve self-publishing: they don’t want to appeal to the publishers, and they want to make their games at their pace, published by themselves in the process. They would also have more creative freedom. (In the past, they worked with a lot of IP that they did not have. A few examples: Metal Gear Rising Revengeance, The Legend of Korra, Transformers: Devastation, Star Fox Zero, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan.)
PlatinumGames is not a studio that released a game in their series annually. They rarely release a game, but it often becomes a big hit. They have an announcement soon – we can’t wait.
