Gotham Knights: It’s Not Based On Comics

A few days ago, Warner Bros. Montreal confirmed that the Gotham Knights would also be independent of the Arkham universe.

A few days ago, on the occasion of the DC FanDome, Gotham Knights, the new Warner Bros. Montreal project based on the Batman universe, was finally unveiled. Little by little we have been learning more information about the game, such as that it will not share a universe with the Arkham saga, something that the Suicide Squad Kill The Justice League game will do.

Fleur Marty, Senior Producer for Gotham Knights, has revealed in an interview with GamesRadar new details about the game, confirming something that we already expected, but that it never hurts to know. “The Gotham Knights story is completely original and will not be based on any existing comic. ” On the other hand, it seems clear that the game will borrow some elements of the brand, not only in the main characters but in the Court of Owls as a backdrop.

One of our goals was to really take advantage of the aspects of the Batman universe that had not yet been exposed in the games,” explains Creative Director Patrick Redding. “We built on the idea of the Batman family, really as a core element. This is how it has evolved into this type of cast of highly divergent characters, each of whom has their own unique twist on their crime fight.” affirms the creative.

Thanks to our relationship with DC we were able to deepen the focus of the characters” – Patrick Redding

Redding assures that the presence of this narrative framework was a “kind of starting point”, and that as they progressed they have given it their own touch. “We are very fortunate in a way because, with our relationship with DC and the fact that that element of the story is relatively recent, we were able to walk into a room and have conversations with some of the main stakeholders on that side, and together detect what was the best way to interpret some of those ideas and these characters, both the heroes and the adversaries, for the type of game we wanted to do.

In Gotham Knights we will take control of Batgirl, Red Hood, Nightwing, and Robin, in an adventure with cooperative overtones, but with all the depth of the Batman universe.
