Fortnite: Save The World: Game Over For The Mac Version

The lawsuits between Apple and Epic Games have a victim in the shape of the Mac version of Fortnite: Save the World.

According to Epic Games, Apple is blocking them from publishing updates for the Mac version of the game, meaning Fortnite: Save the World is going to be sunsetted on the macOS platform. If they tried to install the newest update (which would be v14.20), then – according to Tim Sweeney’s company – it „cause bugs for players,” resulting in „a very poor experience.”

„Since we are no longer able to sign updates and release fixes for these issues, beginning September 23, 2020, Fortnite: Save the World will no longer be playable on macOS,” Epic stated on its website. This is why the Save the World Starter Packs are now no longer be available for purchase on the „big” Apple platform (as the iOS is the company’s mobile platform).

Epic is issuing refunds to every player who bought any Founder’s or Starter Packs for Save the World, including upgrades, if they played the game on macOS between September 17, 2019, and September 17, 2020. They will also refund any purchased V-Bucks that were spent on Llamas on Mac during this period. However, the company (which is reportedly being investigated by the Trump administration over national security concerns, as Tencent, a Chinese tech giant, has 40% ownership in Epic – we discussed it yesterday) asks us to be patient, as the money might not show up until October 2 in the worst case.

„There’s no action needed on your part to receive the refund and you will retain any previously purchased V-Bucks and items on your account. Players will still be able to play Save the World on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. Thanks to cross-progression, your Heroes, Schematics, and everything else in your Homebase will automatically transfer across supported platforms,” Epic added.

Keep in mind that this is not about Fortnite: Battle Royale (which remains playable on macOS, even though its newest update is v13.40 due to no way of updating it there), as Save the World is a co-op third-person shooter tower defence title.
