Japan fights PlayStation5 speculators: boxes marked to prevent resale

It is hard to get the PlayStation 5 nowadays due to a lack of resources and speculations on the market, but Japan is taking steps, making harder to resell consoles.

Lack of resources has led to a lot of dilemmas in the world of technology. In the case of video games, it is very difficult to get hold of the latest generation consoles these days, and the presence of speculators in the market just does not help. Because of that Sony lowered its PS5 production forecasts. The japanese company has also started taking uncommon measures to prevent customers from reselling the console on the spot.

VGC says that some stores in the country have begun to mark the PS5 boxes with the name of the buyer and the date of purchase, so that if anybody wants to resell, it will be implied that the console is second hand. They also reported that stores will be able to dispose the boxes of the controller that is included inside the PS5 package, which would leave the controller loose in the pack. Japan even had to tighten anti-speculation measures, as a store had to call the police because of altercations caused by customers who wanted to buy PS5.

It remains to be seen whether these ideas can reduce the number of speculators in Japan, as it does not seem that the problem of supply shortages will be resolved in the near future. PlayStation has stated that it is 100% focused on shipping more PS5s to stores and appears to be working on detachable cases that could mean the return of console customization. For the time being, it will be necessary to keep fighting to get a PS5, and even more so if we are aiming for the standard model, as physical games are booming.
