If all is true, the Venom villain is arriving as part of the Summer of Symbiotes event – and he’s targeting Carnage.

 

 

Knull, the original King in Black, will return this summer to kill Carnage and the rest of the Venomverse. This year marks the 35th anniversary of Venom. Marvel celebrates in style with a new publishing initiative called Summer of Symbiotes. It will include several mini-series and individual comic books. A new cover for Death of the Venomverse has also been released, featuring Knull, the fallen King in Black, facing off against Carnage.

As reported by Comic Book Resources, Bjorn Barends’ cover for Death of the Venomverse #5 promises a symbiotic showdown with Knull standing triumphant over the defeated Carnage.

The issue is written by Cullen Bunn and drawn by Gerardo Sandoval. The two monsters are promised to battle it out for the title of King in Black! Marvel has not revealed how Knull, who was apparently killed at the end of the King in Black event, will return. But the CBR article suggests that Knull may come out of the past to reclaim his crown. However, the article suggests that he could come from elsewhere in the multiverse.

 

The King In Black reimagines the Venom story

 

Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman’s character-driven Venom franchise, which runs from 2018 to 2021, introduced several concepts that revolutionized the character and his place in the Marvel Universe. The first and most important of these was the introduction of Knull. An ancient being from pre-universe times, Knull was the god of symbiotes. He used them to kill and enslave god-like beings, such as the Celestials, whom Knull particularly hated. Knull targeted Earth, invaded the planet with his army of symbiotes, and enslaved countless heroes. Eddie Brock played a significant role in stopping Knull. Brock joined forces with the Enigma Force and threw Knull into the Sun, seemingly killing him. But now Knull is back – and he may be unstoppable.

Marvel has not revealed how Knull will return, as his defeat at the end of The King in Black seemed to have rid the universe of him for good.

The idea that Carnage could be the only thing standing between the universe and total domination at the hands of Knull is terrifying. Carnage is not a good guy, to say the least, and in his 30+ years of existence, he has never once been redeemed. Once Carnage is done with Knull in short order, he will become the Black King and be able to go on a destructive rampage that rivals Knull’s. But while Knull wanted slaves, Carnage only likes to kill and destroy, making him far more nihilistic and dangerous than Knull ever was. This summer, the Venomverse will be in turmoil when Knull returns to try to defeat Carnage for the title of King in Black.
