Project G.G.: Is PlatinumGames Wiping Its Past?

We don’t hear much about where the long-announced project is in its development, but maybe that’s not a coincidence.

PlatinumGames has removed Project G.G. from its website, so the name no longer appears on the Japanese studio’s list of projects.

This leads us to believe that the game has been canceled. This is also the opinion of the fans. However, if this was the only change to PlatniumGames’ list of games, it wouldn’t be so interesting, but the Japanese studio has removed more than that, as 22 names were added to the list (see the previous page on archive.org), and now only nine are listed.

The website for the removed games is still active.Apart from Mad World (a Wii-exclusive game that could be described as particularly brutal) and Sol Cresta (a side-scrolling shooter), the pages reserved for titles that are no longer available have not been deleted. The websites for Babylon’s Fall (a huge flop for both PlatinumGames and Square Enix) and World of Demons (the hack-and-slash iOS game that will no longer be available in January 2024) are still active, but the link to Project G.G. simply redirects to the studio’s main website.

Jean Pierre Kellams, former producer at PlatinumGames, responded on Twitter, saying that he had no idea why the studio did this, but that it was a shame that their history was being erased in this way. He wonders if they pulled the rug out of the lobby as well. Having worked on most of the games involved, he takes offense at what PlatinumGames has done to his website.

Project G.G. was announced by PlatinumGames in February 2020. It’s an action game where you control a giant superhero, and it was supposed to be the culmination of Kamiya Hideki’s superhero trilogy. However, Kamiya left the company in October 2023, and was replaced by Project G.G.’s lead designer at the Capcom-affiliated studio Clovers.

After that, the game probably won’t even be made, which would be about as disappointing as what we saw with Scalebound before…
