Netflix is preparing to include artificial intelligence in its commercials, which sounds annoying just thinking about it.
Netflix continues its legacy of making ads more irritating in an effort to squeeze more money from subscribers via AI-generated innovations.
At last week’s annual advertisers meeting, the company revealed that AI-powered ads will start rolling out in 2026. Amy Reinhard, Netflix’s president of advertising, claimed users focus on mid-roll ads as much as on the shows themselves.
According to The Verge, Netflix plans to integrate AI-generated content themed around the show being watched — including overlays — similar to how Star Wars in Chile was used to feature beer ads (see the video below).
The goal may be to push users toward more expensive ad-free tiers. Meanwhile, prices climb, password-sharing is gone, and Netflix is less user-friendly than ever.
There’s concern Netflix will feed every title to AI to automate product placements, which raises serious copyright concerns among content creators.
Around one-third of subscribers choose the cheapest tier — either to save or because they don’t find Netflix worth the price. The company could instead improve its offering with expansions like Netflix Gaming or longer-running hit shows.
