The future of one of gaming’s most iconic modding platforms is changing hands, but the new owners promise that its essence will stay the same. Nexus Mods, the world’s largest modding community, has been sold by founder Robin “DarkOne” Scott after nearly 24 years. Despite this, the new leadership has made it clear: there will be no aggressive monetization or paid mods.

The acquisition was carried out by Chosen, a collective consisting of three prominent modders: Foledinho (Victor), Rapsak (Marinus), and Taagen (Nikolai). While DarkOne was searching for buyers who would uphold Nexus Mods’ tradition and defend free mods, many in the community were anxious about what might change under new ownership.

Nexus Mods Will Stay the Same – No Major Changes Planned

Responding to concerns—especially about possible fees or paywalls—Foledinho himself offered reassurance: “Mods will always be free,” he said in a statement posted on Nexus Mods.

According to the new team, there will be no drastic shift to the current business model. Lifetime Premium and free accounts will continue, and modders’ creations won’t be claimed by the platform. Foledinho also stressed his respect for Scott’s monetization approach since 2007, calling it a “balanced model” that enabled sustainable growth while keeping Nexus Mods’ spirit alive.

“We have no intention of changing how Premium works,” Foledinho said. “There will be no paid mods, nor will there be more advertising—if anything, less. Nexus Mods is a complex platform, and monetizing without harming the community is a challenge, but our priority is to listen and act responsibly.” He promised that support for modders and a community-first focus would remain at the center of their approach.

While most users have welcomed Chosen’s messages, some are waiting to see what these promises look like in practice—especially how ad reduction will work without hurting site revenue. For now, the transition seems to honor Scott’s legacy, and Nexus Mods remains a creative haven for millions of modders and players worldwide.
