The fathers of Final Fantasy have delighted thousands of fans with a single sentence and now many dream of seeing FF XVI on Nintendo Switch 2. Speaking about Final Fantasy XVI and the possibility of purchasing it on PC, PlayStation and Xbox, members of Square Enix suggest that now “only Nintendo is left”
Square Enix has kept its promise and now Xbox Series X|S players can dive into the epic adventure of Final Fantasy XVI. That means the franchise’s latest mainline RPG is available on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, but the Japanese studio isn’t stopping there—they’re already looking at bringing Clive’s story to yet another platform. It’s not official, but hints about a Nintendo Switch 2 release have surfaced, and fans are celebrating the news.
As user Kuro pointed out on ResetEra, Square Enix hosted a YouTube stream to discuss the popular Final Fantasy XIV. At around 3 hours and 22 minutes in, the discussion shifted as the team reminded everyone that the latest main installment is now available for purchase on Xbox Series X|S—prompting Naoki Yoshida, producer of FF XIV and FF XVI, to drop a phrase that immediately set fan hopes alight: “only Nintendo remains.”
No concrete plans for a Switch 2 port have been shared, but creative director Kazutoyo Maehiro promised to “do the best he can.” Given Square Enix’s recent efforts to bring more Final Fantasy titles to Nintendo hardware, many fans are taking this as a strong sign that Clive’s adventure is destined for the Big N’s next console.
Final Fantasy VII Remake and Rebirth Also Coming to Switch 2
Among the most significant Switch 2 gaming headlines is that the Final Fantasy VII Remake is officially coming to the new console, with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth expected to follow. With Square Enix now pursuing a multiplatform approach, there’s good reason to believe that Final Fantasy XVI will land on the next-gen hybrid as well.
