Bethesda Game Studios Is Going All In on Fallout and The Elder Scrolls!

Todd Howard’s team at Bethesda Game Studios (BGS) has confirmed a few things that we had previously only been able to treat as rumors.

Following recent layoffs and rumors about a new Fallout game in development at Obsidian Entertainment, BGS published a lengthy message outlining its complete plans for the coming years. The key takeaway is that the studio is paying more attention to all its franchises, though it is focusing particularly on Fallout and The Elder Scrolls.

Starfield isn’t going anywhere just yet. After attracting 17 million players and nearly one billion hours of playtime, BGS will continue expanding the sci-fi game with new stories, gameplay improvements, and updates while preparing for the 2027 launch of the new Starborn content. The roadmap clearly shows Asha Sharma’s priorities as CEO of Xbox.

BGS has confirmed its partnership with Obsidian on a new Fallout game. Additionally, the studio has begun preparations for Fallout 5, which, like The Elder Scrolls VI, will be powered by Creation Engine 3. Meanwhile, the studio will expand Fallout 76 next year with the Raven Rock expansion, which tells the prequel story to Fallout 3. The studio also confirmed that remastered versions of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are in the works. We’ve heard rumors about these for quite some time. BGS did not reveal when we can expect to see them. However, they may have dropped a hint when they mentioned a special event in Washington in 2027 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Fallout. Fallout Day will be on October 23.

Of course, The Elder Scrolls VI remains a top priority as BGS’s main development project. The message acknowledges the long wait since The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which recently surpassed 65 million copies sold. However, it hints that the team is eager for the new game and loves the way it looks. They play it every day. They also confirmed that ZeniMax Online Studios will work more closely with BGS in the future.

While the announcement doesn’t explicitly state it, all signs point to ZeniMax Online Studios helping with the development of The Elder Scrolls VI. However, it’s unclear how they’ll be able to accomplish this, given that they’re already having trouble keeping up with the update schedule for their own MMORPG, The Elder Scrolls Online, following significant staff cuts.
