Though it’s hard to understand, it’s true: a game developed by a Microsoft-affiliated publisher will not be included in the Redmond-based tech giant’s subscription service after all.
Microsoft removed Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 from the list of upcoming Xbox Game Pass titles. Last week, the latest Game Pass update was announced. It includes version 1.0 of Palworld and Ascend to Zero, which will be available on their release dates, as well as Gears of War: Reloaded on the Game Pass Premium tier. According to Xbox’s list, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 was supposed to be added to Game Pass Ultimate, Game Pass Premium, and PC Game Pass on July 21.
However, the official Xbox Wire blog post listing the titles for the next Game Pass update has been updated to include an editorial note stating that Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 has been removed from the list of upcoming Game Pass titles. No explanation was given as to why the game was removed from the Xbox Game Pass release schedule. Microsoft acquired the game’s publisher, Activision, in 2023. Therefore, Microsoft owns the intellectual property rights to Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater. In theory, Microsoft could release the game on Game Pass, as it did with Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 on July 20, 2025, the day of its release.
The game is nearly six years old, so licensing issues could be behind Xbox’s decision to remove it from Game Pass. If the game were taken down from the Xbox Store due to expired music or sponsorship licenses in the near future (as has happened with older Forza Horizon games), it would also have to be removed from Game Pass.
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 was released in September 2020 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC and in 2021 for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch.
