Wargaming’s successful game is going to enter the world of virtual reality.
VentureBeat reports that Wargaming, the developers of World of Tanks, is teaming up with VRTech, a virtual reality venture fund, to form Neurogaming. It already has seventy-five employees, and their first game is confirmed to be World of Tanks VR!
Neurogaming is based in Nicosia, Ciprus, with a studio in Moscow. They plan to open an Amsterdam and New York studio by the end of March. We know about two other projects by them: Cinema VR and Polygon VR. The former is a location-based VR entertainment with up to four players. Its 36 locations in Russia reported over 180 thousand players last year.
Meanwhile, Polygon VR is a platform which powers virtual reality gameplay on location with features such as motion capture technology, broadcasting software, second screen support, and a game management system for both first and third party titles.
Neurogaming is planning to launch its custom platform to expand the Cinema VR franchise with more locations, where World of Tanks VR could also be played with the Polygon VR technology. Slava Makarov, the creator of World of Tanks says „with location-based VR, we make the experience more affordable and accessible. Moreover, unlike any other developer, our biggest aim is to change the experience from one-time involvement to a long-term engaging story with co-op and competitive elements.”
We’ll see – so far, it’s just an announcement, and we haven’t seen World of Tanks VR in action yet.
