DualShock 5– Immersion – which is one of the market leaders of such technology – believes Sony‘s new controller (which is called DualShock 5 by everyone, even though it’s not been confirmed yet) will shed light on the advanced haptic experiences.
Back in May, Sony and Immersion entered a partnership so that the PlayStation-manufacturing company can use the latter’s technology in gaming and VR controllers. Since then, Sony has confirmed that the next-gen controller will use new haptic technology to bring gaming to a new level, as we’ll have sensations of pushing, pulling, or grasping…
„Research shows that haptics makes games come to life, increasing players’ satisfaction and enjoyment through peripherals and games enhanced with the power of touch. We are thrilled to work with Sony Interactive Entertainment, a true pioneer in gaming, to provide incredible experiences to their customers,” said Ramzi Haidamus, Immersion’s CEO. „We are pleased to reach an agreement with Immersion. High-quality haptics technology enhances the sense of presence and immersion for gamers, and this agreement is consistent with SIE’s desire to provide the best gaming experiences to gamers around the world,” Riley Russell, Chief Legal Officer of SIE, added.
Recently, Immersion’s newest financial earnings report had a quote from Haidamus that we need to see: „In gaming, we continue to anticipate per Sony’s public statements, the release of its PlayStation 5 gaming console in the holiday 2020 time frame. As we previously announced last May, Sony Interactive Entertainment took a license to our haptics technology for gaming and VR controllers. We, therefore, anticipate revenue from PlayStation 5 controllers, once shipments commence towards the end of our fiscal year. We also continue to believe Sony’s new controllers will catalyze increased market demand for advanced interactive haptic experiences.”
Since Sony licensed the tech from Immersion, they will get money out of the deal, which is why it was brought up. The next fiscal year will end in March 2021. The PlayStation 5 and the DualShock 5 will both arrive this Holiday season.
