According to new rumours, the Japanese company keeps the IP’s rights, but the „dirty work” is being handled by someone else.
ACG-Gaming, based on a reliable source, claims that the Metal Gear Solid IP is up for grabs in one way or another in the video below, perhaps because Konami‘s last Metal Gear game, Metal Gear: Survive was less than subpar. We have yet to see how much of it is tied to the Kojima–Microsoft–Sony trio, which will have to be discussed in the news later today, as there are updates in that story.
But back to Metal Gear Solid, ACG-Gaming has clarified his source on Reddit: „The person who told me this has been with me since Far Cry Primal leaks, and mostly has been right, from Bethesda moving to 0-day review code and this year to Deathloop, Bloodlines, Dragon’s Dogma 2 leak, Xbox Game Boost work, and a couple more this year.
I was simply stating I had heard from a source, the same that informed me of the Xbox [Game] Boost, the Deathloop delay, Bloodlines, and the other stuff I had talked about as saying this happening and that Metal Gear itself was in some way UP for grabs. Which then popped up in this discussion about Kojima (you guys should know I am not a huge Kojima follower as a person and don’t work on personal leaks ever, as I find it a bit creepy). That source has been reliable all this year so I said it. I don’t have the time to discuss bs so I don’t repeat most, but they were right about the Bloodlines stuff the Deathloop stuff. So I figured it was worthy,” he wrote. By Bloodlines, he meant Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2.
We have yet to see who Konami has contacted to work on Metal Gear’s IP, and it’s difficult to even name just one guess, as technically anyone can be behind it right now. A new Metal Gear could be good, but without Kojima, it will no longer be the same.
