Highly Anticipated, Former PlayStation-Exclusive Game Has Flopped On PC…

A PlayStation-exclusive title that recently came to PC performs less well on the platform than other games.

Sackboy: A Big Adventure does not perform well on PC compared to other PlayStation-exclusive games. At least in terms of Steam spending. The game was the PS5 cross-gen launch title for Sony’s new console when it launched in 2020. It received mostly positive reviews and was hailed as a solid cooperative platform game. Nearly two years after its initial release on PlayStation consoles, it has made its way to PC.

The PC port of Sackboy: A Big Adventure is the latest PlayStation-exclusive game to arrive on PC.

While Sony used to keep its titles strictly available on consoles, it has recently experimented with bringing some of its big games to PC in recent years.

Some of the best-known PlayStation-PC ports include 2018’s God of War, Spider-Man Remastered and Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, with more reportedly planned for the future.

PlayStation games have been a big hit on PC. Sony is therefore investing resources in bringing several of its most prominent titles to the platform. However, Sackboy: A Big Adventure does not seem as successful as the PlayStation games preceded it. It’s been available on PC since 27 October, but as Push Square pointed out (based on SteamDB data), the number of concurrent players peaked at just 610. By comparison, the PC port of God of War had over 73,000 players at its peak. At the time of writing, Sackboy: A Big Adventure is in last place regarding concurrent players on Steam.

This seems to be a good indication that Sackboy: The Big Adventure is failing on PC. It is possible, though unlikely that the game will generate much more interest on the Epic Games Store. Presumably, more copies have been sold on Steam than the number of concurrent players suggests.

There could be several reasons why Sackboy: A Big Adventure seems to be struggling to find an audience on PC compared to other PlayStation-exclusive games. Two, in particular, stand out.

The most obvious explanation is that fewer PC players are interested in the game. Previous PS-exclusive titles have attracted more interest. 3D platformers do not have a significant presence in PC games. Another possibility is that there is too much competition at the moment. The industry is in the middle of the autumn gaming rush, and Sackboy was released on PC just one day before Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which is likely to be the year’s best-selling game.
