Is Sony Preparing An InFamous Sequel Announcement?

Sucker Punch’s IP, InFamous, could also be making an appearance at the PlayStation Showcase coming up in the next few days.

Sucker Punch Productions was a studio within Sony Interactive Entertainment that went through significant growth. Their newest game is the PlayStation 4-exclusive Ghost of Tsushima, which got a PlayStation 5 version and the Iki Island expansion with the Director’s Cut subtitle. Seeing the game’s success, it’s logical to think that the studio will focus on this franchise given Sony’s strategy (that Shawn Layden, an ex-PlayStation boss, has recently criticized). Blockbusters above all, even if they will need approximately 200 million dollars or so to be made!

“OK, please take this one with a grain of salt because it’s one of the things I couldn’t get confirmed, but because I like the series, I’m hoping it’s true. There’s a chance we could see InFamous make a return at Sony’s showcase. Fingers crossed,” Shpeshal Nick wrote on Twitter. There’s a chance of it happening, as the domain of the website got renewed.

Sony has pulled this move behind the scenes, away from all prying eyes, on June 29, nearly fourteen years after the initial registration. It doesn’t seem to be a coincidence, as unlike with Killzone, it doesn’t feel like Sony wants to abandon its past (while Guerrilla Games, the devs behind Killzone, is now working on the cross-gen Horizon Forbidden West, recently confirmed to be delayed into early 2022).

What could happen? A new InFamous? Maybe. A PlayStation 5 upgrade of the PlayStation 4 game InFamous: Second Son? It wouldn’t need a whole studio’s work, allowing Sucker Punch to focus on Ghost of Tsushima. A remake from, say, the first game? It isn’t impossible, but then, who would be developing it?

Whatever the truth is, we will see the answers on Thursday, and during the broadcast, God of War Ragnarok (the unofficial name for now!) might also show up.
